Sectors
Multi-sector experience combined with technical environmental expertise
With over two decades of experience in multiple high-stakes sectors, our team understands that your business needs tailored support. Underpinned by a technical environmental skillset, we are able to dive into the specific opportunities and challenges of your sector with you, whilst retaining the highest standards of professional and scientific rigour. Take a look at some of our key sectors below.
Land development
Delivering genuinely sustainable development requires balancing ambition with viability. Land development sits at the intersection of planning policy, infrastructure constraints, investor requirements, and community expectation. Net zero targets must be delivered within commercial reality, while still responding to increasingly complex regulatory and evidence requirements.
Beyond carbon and energy, sustainable land development is about creating places where people want to live. Wellbeing, social cohesion, access to infrastructure, and long-term resilience cannot be treated as add-ons or planning exercises. We support developers and landowners to embed sustainability into the core of a development strategy: ensuring that energy, carbon, utilities, and social outcomes are aligned from the outset and can be delivered through construction and into operation.
Our team has delivered climate risk assessments for multi‑billion‑pound transport and energy networks, analysing exposure to extreme heat, flooding, subsidence and storm impacts, producing asset‑level vulnerability maps and prioritising adaptation actions to strengthen long‑term resilience. We have designed geospatial climate‑vulnerability methodologies for large mining operations, integrating climate projections with hydrology, geotechnical stability and supply‑chain dependencies, enabling operators to plan for extreme rainfall, heat stress and water scarcity.
We have developed resilience strategies for electricity and water utilities, including scenario‑based stress testing, operational risk modelling and adaptation roadmaps aligned with recognised climate standards, supporting boards in understanding physical risk exposure under future climate pathways.
Local Government
Local authorities play a critical role in enabling economic growth, shaping development, and delivering services for communities. However, infrastructure planning has often been based on legacy assumptions that do not align with net zero ambitions or evolving community needs.
We support local government to rethink how energy, utilities, and infrastructure planning can enable sustainable growth. By aligning policy, evidence, and delivery planning, we help councils make informed decisions that support decarbonisation, resilience, and wellbeing, while remaining grounded in funding, phasing, and delivery constraints.
We have experience in developing municipal energy and nature investment strategies that allow local governments to invest and generate long-term revenues from green infrastructure.
We have supported national and regional authorities to embed climate adaptation into planning, infrastructure investment and regulatory frameworks, producing climate governance reviews, risk registers and implementation plans to guide long‑term decision‑making.
We have assessed climate risks for heritage sites, community facilities and public‑realm developments, ensuring sensitive assets are protected from future climate pressures.
Corporations and Investors
Within an increasingly complex regulatory and reporting landscape, requirements are expanding, expectations are rising, and teams are competing for attention alongside other business priorities. Too often, institutionalised approaches create a disconnect between strategy, reporting, and real-world action.
We help organisations move beyond compliance-led thinking to build systems that enable delivery. People are the most important asset in any organisation and successful ESG performance depends on clear governance, practical processes, and engagement that drives ownership. Our work focuses on turning ESG ambition into operational reality, supported by data that decision-makers can trust.
We have created and delivered climate risk due diligence for major development bank investments, assessed portfolio‑level exposure and advised on climate‑resilient design, procurement and reporting aligned with IFRS S1 and S2.
Creative
Production operates at pace. Decisions are often made quickly, under pressure, and with competing creative, budgetary, and operational demands. Environmental performance must therefore work within the realities of production rather than imposing additional burdens that slow delivery.
The creative industries face growing complexity, including the need to align commissioner requirements, corporate ESG reporting, and regional industry certification. At the same time, productions must actively decarbonise energy use, travel, materials, and logistics to align with overarching regulatory and ethical pressures. We support some of the world’s largest commissioners, studios and productions with practical decarbonisation support, robust and transparent data methodologies and effective engagement strategies as part of a holistic approach to compliance and environmental management that works on-set and off-set, helping teams meet requirements while maintaining focus on delivery.
Our team has worked with all UK broadcasters, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and Sky. Our work has included both corporate alignment to industry and international standards, and production environmental management with international organisations including Universal International Studios and NBCUniversal.
Manufacturing and Apparel
Manufacturing is a highly competitive market with complex regulatory requirements and truly global supply chains. In the modern age, environmental and social performance is closely linked to cost, risk, brand value, and competitiveness.
We support organisations to navigate regulatory complexity, improve resource efficiency, and decarbonise operations while recognising that people are the most important asset to any organisation in this space. Our approach focuses on practical management systems, robust data, and improvement programmes that support both compliance and competitive advantage.
Our understanding of the geography of manufacturing, emerging national policy regimes and impacts on supply chains allows us to inform our clients of their geographical footprint risks and allows the development of near- and long-term alignment with their host country’s own Paris Agreement commitments.
Sports
In sport, performance on the pitch or the track is always the priority. Everything else is secondary. Sustainability initiatives must therefore support performance rather than compete with it. Having played professional and international-level sport, our leadership team has a grounding in the institutions of elite athletic endeavour.
Clubs, venues, and governing bodies are nevertheless under increasing pressure to reduce environmental impacts, manage climate risks, and meet stakeholder expectations. We work with sports organisations to integrate sustainability into operations, facilities, and governance in ways that protect performance, support resilience, and build long-term value whilst contributing to high performance.
Charities and Not for Profits
We understand that tackling climate change requires all parts of society to come together. Blue Dot Energy & Environment provides support to charities and not-for-profits in understanding their specific environmental impacts, overarching regulatory landscapes and strategies to help them with their journeys to a better future.
We are proud to support the Royal Geographical Society to promote pathways into careers in the environmental sector. We are also delighted to be helping the film and television sector by coordinating Crew4Climate – an initiative supporting on-the-ground production crew to learn about the wider industry’s approaches to net zero.
